Simple Bread Recipe that will Impress your Mother in Law

While scrolling on TikTok, I found this four-ingredient bread recipe. Since then, I have been obsessed with this simple yet delicious recipe that anyone can do!

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour (I prefer Arthur’s Unbleached Bread Flour)
  • 2 1/4 cups water
  • 2 2/3 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon yeast
  • Optional: generous helping of rosemary to scale up the bread

Steps

1

Having a stand mixer is the most optimal for this bread recipe but do not worry you can hand mix this no problem! First, you need to mix together your dry ingredients, so you’re 4 1/2 cups of flour, 2/3 tsp of yeast, and 2 2/3 tsp of salt.

2

After your dry ingredients are thoroughly mixed together, you can now slowly start adding in the water, I recommend having the stand mixer on the 2nd to lowest level to ensure that everything moves slowly, if you are hand mixing feel free to stop every so often and mix to allow the water and the dry ingredients to mix.

3

Once everything starts to take on a doughy texture and appearance, it is time to cover (a towel or cling wrap will suffice) and let the bread rise for about 8 hours; I personally prefer to wait overnight, but to each his own!

4

After your bread is done rising, it is almost time to bake. First thing you need to do is pinch and fold the dough to let air bubbles out, and let it rest for about an hour. After that, you need to preheat your oven to 425 F. While the oven is preheating, I suggest placing your Dutch oven with the lid on inside the oven to heat it up just a little bit.

5

Once it has been an hour and your dough has rested, place it in an oiled Dutch oven. Bake the bread with the lid on for about 30 minutes, after that 30 minutes take the lid off and continue to bake for another 15 minutes.

6

Once that oven timer has gone off, pull the Dutch oven out, carefully remove the bread, and set it aside to cool.

7

You should wait around an hour to allow your bread to completely cool before serving! I personally like to butter up my bread and add just a pinch of salt to create an amazing mix of flavors!
